How to Love Yourself as You Are

I had a rough day last week. I order most of my clothes and shoes online because most stores don’t have accessible dressing rooms. My new jeans arrived. I ordered more jeans like my favorite pair…or so I thought. Opening the package, I realized they were the wrong jeans. I tried them on anyway. They didn’t fit. The jeans were too small. I teared up angry at myself. How could I have ordered the wrong ones?  Then I tried on my other new pair of pants. Those fit. At least there’s that I thought. I’ll know I’ll find more jeans I love if I don’t give up. I’m not giving up at all.

After trying everything on, my dog Coco came to cuddle with me. Hugging Coco and having her look at me with so much love and acceptance, I wondered about why I couldn’t do that for myself. We live in a culture where we’re supposed to be perfect. Filters are king when we take pictures of ourselves, or so we’re told. Hashtag blessed and living the best life is what we are told to be always.

The more I thought about it the more frustrated I became. What happened to just being healthy? My doctor and dentist tell me I’m very healthy. I do my best to take good care of myself. That wasn’t always the case which you know if you’ve followed my blog for a while. Shouldn’t making my health a priority and doing my best be enough? Yes, I thought. Instead of beating myself up anymore I thought about how to love myself. I hope the tips below help you love yourselves as you are too.

  1. Stand in front of the mirror and think of all the steps you take to make taking good care of yourself a priority
  2. Listen to “What a Way to Want to be” by Shania Twain and sing along.

3. Listen to “Perfect” by Pink and sing along

4. Write down stuff you like about yourself and stick it on the bathroom mirror

5. Talk to someone who loves you about your bad day
