How I Define Myself in the World

What happens when you wake up to find you don’t fit in any box? What happens when you’re different? Stay tuned. I’m still working that out myself. I’m full of contradictions & surprises. The following list is how I define myself:

  1. I am a literal miracle. I am God’s daughter. I have been since 1991. The God I serve doesn’t hate anyone. He loves everybody so much He died for them. God is in the forgiveness business, too. He doesn’t make mistakes. He didn’t start with me or anybody else. He says love me & everybody as yourself no exceptions. Okay. Done. I don’t get it right all the time, but I try.
  2. I am the political scientist who doesn’t have a party affiliation. I don’t line up with either party, completely. I vote for myself and for the common good because of number 1 on this list.
  3. I’m a young woman who’s past experiences colors her present views & the way she chooses to live her life. I choose to love myself as much as I love others. I know my self-worth, now, and I used to not. I know my strength in ways I wish I never had to learn of it.
  4. I am a disabled American who refuses to be defined by her physical challenges…EVER.
  5. I have no tolerance for hate.
  6. I stand for inclusion.
  7. I stand for equality.
  8. I thrive because I have a chosen family who loves me & doesn’t have to. We thrive together because not thriving together is NEVER an option.
  9. I believe in facts & knowledge: I will always work to further these & champion them.
  10. I do my best to be a good daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, chosen sister/aunt, and friend. I don’t get it right all the time, but I try.
  11. I’m still learning & growing. I always will be. Being brave & a world changer is a life-long process.
