Why Understanding my Personality is Important

While listening to a podcast the other day, I discovered another way to understand my personality. Enneagram personality types were what the podcast was talking about. I had to do research to find out more because I’d never heard of it. What I found out is “the Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions” (https://www.truity.com/enneagram/what-is-enneagram). ho

It took me a few days to find a free test online. This is the one that I used (https://personalitypath.com/enneagram/personality-test). It was extremely easy and straightforward to take. It did not take much time either which was a plus as well. My results surprised me just a little bit. According to the test, I am a personality type 5. “Fives try to master the world by understanding it and collecting information, processing things mostly in their mind” (https://personalitypath.com/enneagram/personality-test-result/?t=6268a08ed0482).

I have always been an overthinker. I spend a lot of time in my head that is true. My academic training made this worse. my extremely emotional nature is not something the test accounted for accurately. When I read about the personality types before I took the test, I identified most strongly with personality type 4. according to my results I am 63% a type 4 personality. 73% of my personality is a type 5 which is the result I got. I do not agree with the results entirely, but I do not think the questions accurately captured my personality properly. It was nice to learn more about my personality and how I see the world from a scientific standpoint. Having more information about myself I can learn how to interact with the world and show more kindness to myself.
